How to sync Airbnb and Booking.com calendars (and stop double bookings)
If the same room is listed on Airbnb and on Booking.com, every booking on one site has to close those nights on the other. Otherwise, sooner or later, two guests arrive for the same night.
Both sites support this with calendar links (also called iCal links). Each site gives you an export link that lists its bookings, and accepts import links from other sites. Connect them both ways and each site blocks the nights booked on the other.
Option 1: connect the two sites directly
With only two sites, you can paste each site's export link into the other:
- Copy Airbnb's link. On a computer, open Menu → Listings, pick the listing, then Calendar → Availability → Connected calendars → Connect calendars. Choose Export calendar, keep All future dates, and copy the link (it looks like
airbnb.com/calendar/ical/….ics). - Import it on Booking.com. In the Extranet (admin.booking.com), open Rates & Availability → Sync calendars, add a calendar connection (Import calendar) for the room, and paste the Airbnb link.
- Copy Booking.com's link. On the same Sync calendars page, choose Export calendar for the room and copy the link (it starts with
ical.booking.com). - Import it on Airbnb. Back on Airbnb's Connect calendars page, choose Import calendar, paste the Booking.com link and give it a clear name like “Booking.com”.
That is four links for two sites, and it grows fast: every site you add needs links to and from every other site. Three sites need six links, four sites need twelve. And when one link quietly stops working, nothing tells you.
Option 2: one calendar in the middle
A channel manager sits in the middle. Each site sends its bookings to it once, and gets back one link that contains the bookings from all the other sites. Adding another site means one more pair of links instead of re-linking everything.
With Axorooms — free for 5 listings — the setup for each site is:
- Add your listing and pick the site (Airbnb, Booking.com, Agoda, Vrbo and 27 more).
- Paste that site's export link. Axorooms checks it straight away and shows how many bookings it found.
- Copy the Axorooms link it gives you for that site and paste it into the site's Import calendar setting.
Each site gets its own Axorooms link that leaves out that site's own bookings, so a cancelled booking never bounces back and keeps its dates closed by mistake.
How fast does it work?
Calendar sync by link is never instant. Each site reads the links you give it on its own schedule: Airbnb about every 3 hours, Booking.com about every 2 hours, Vrbo about once a day. A tool in the middle can read your sites often (Axorooms checks every 10–30 minutes), but it can't make Airbnb or Booking.com read faster. That gap is why double bookings can still happen with any link-based tool — here is how to keep the risk low.
Check that it works
- Close a test night on one site, wait a few hours, and check it shows as unavailable on the other.
- Name imported calendars clearly (“Axorooms”, “Booking.com”) so you can tell where a closed date came from.
- Look at your connected calendars now and then — a link that stops working usually fails silently. Axorooms shows a notification when a link fails three times in a row.
